Letters of Max Karcher [manuscript], 1917-1918.

Karcher writes to Isabel Stark, then a student at Randolph Macon Women's College regarding his wartime activities. He describes life in the trenches, German army offensives in the spring of 1918, hardships of his family in Antwerp and a leave in Paris where he met E. E. Hunt and members of the Commission for Relief in Belgium. He discusses post-war plans and hopes to come to the United States. He comments on the role of women and the differences in the education of young women between the U.S. and European countries.
